After World War II, the Mediterranean island of Cyprus was home to detention camps for Holocaust survivors who were detained en route to Palestine. The British government, which controlled Palestine at that time, intercepted more than 50,000 Holocaust survivors between 1946-1948 and detained them on Cyprus.
