Transnistria Governorate, August 1941–March 1944

The Transnistria Governorate (often referred to as Transnistria) was a Romanian administrative unit from August 1941 to March 1944. This region was part of Soviet Ukraine before it was occupied by Romania. Romania was allied with Nazi Germany and other Axis partners from November 1940 until August 1944.

The Transnistria Governorate was a key site of mass murder during the Holocaust. In Transnistria, Romanian authorities and local auxiliary forces murdered an estimated 280,000 to 380,000 Jews.
