Amsterdam

Amsterdam was the most populated city in the Netherlands during World War II. On May 10, 1940, it was occupied by Nazi Germany. Dutch Jews were later deported to Nazi camps and killing centers. In the spring of 1945, Canadian forces liberated Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands. By the end of the war, at least 80 percent of the prewar Dutch Jewish community had perished.
