Darfur

The US has recognized two genocides in Darfur, a region in northwest Sudan in recent decades. Civil unrest in the early 2000s resulted in ethnic cleansing and genocide in Darfur from 2003-2005. Since 2023, renewed conflict in Sudan has resulted in mass atrocities in Darfur that the US Secretary of State recognized as genocide in January 2025. Explore more content related to Darfur.
