Beginning on January 16, 1942, Nazi German authorities deported Jews from the Łódź ghetto to the Chełmno killing center. There, they murdered their Jewish victims in gas vans. In total, about 77,000 Jews from the Łódź ghetto were murdered at Chełmno.
