After the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941, Bosnia was ceded to the Independent State of Croatia. The Holocaust (1933-1945) affected the Serbian, Roma, and Jewish populations within the country. Later, from 1992-1995, Bosnia was the site of a civil war that killed an estimated 100,000 people and included cases of ethnic cleansing and genocide.
