Front cover of Gerd Pleiss' photograph album, 1936-1937

SS officer Gerhard “Gerd” Pleiss (1915-1941) served as a member of Adolf Hitler’s personal bodyguard. His pre-war photo album documents his military training as well as his security details at Nazi rallies, the 1936 Berlin Olympics, and at Hitler’s residence in Berchtesgaden. The front cover bears an SS emblem and is embossed with "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit bei der Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler” (“In memory of my service with the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler”).
