A building in Vienna adorned with a Nazi banner, April 1938

The Looshaus, a building in the center of Vienna, decorated in support of the Nazi annexation of Austria (an event called the Anschluss). The banner includes a quote from Adolf Hitler that reads “Gleiches Blut gehört in ein gemeinsames Reich” (“People of the same blood should be in the same Reich”). The swastika flags, banner, and other decorations were part of a Nazi propaganda campaign ahead of a referendum vote on April 10. The referendum called on Austrians to confirm their country’s annexation to Nazi Germany.
