A group of artists and refugee aid workers pose at the Villa Air-Bel outside Marseille, France in 1941. Varian Fry and his associates rented the villa to provide a safe place for anti-Nazi refugees to stay while preparing to emigrate.
Among those pictured are Daniel Bénédite, André Breton, Jacqueline Lamba Breton, Jacques Hérold, and Wifredo Lam.
