I tedeschi si servirono del campo di rieducazione al lavoro di Syrec, alla periferia di Kiev, dal maggio del 1942 all’ottobre del 1943. Il campo di Syrec fu un campo fondamentale per alimentare il terrore nazista nell’Ucraina occupata dai sovietici. I prigionieri di Syrec furono anche obbligati ad aiutare i nazisti nel tentativo di distruggere le prove dell’Olocausto.
Il 5 settembre 1942, le SS e il comandante della polizia del Distretto di Varsavia pubblicarono questo volantino in cui si proclamava la pena di morte per chiunque aiutasse gli ebrei a lasciare il ghetto senza autorizzazione. Il manifesto fu pubblicato subito dopo la deportazione di massa degli ebrei dal ghetto di Varsavia al campo di sterminio di Treblinka nell’estate del 1942. Nell’aprile del 1947, la marina britannica intercettò la nave Theodor Herzl diretta dall’Europa in Palestina che allora era un Mandato britannico. A bordo della nave c’erano centinaia di sopravvissuti all’Olocausto, tra cui anche bambini e bambine, in cerca di una casa. Questa fotografia mostra i soldati britannici che trasferiscono su un’altra nave alcuni bambini ebrei per deportarli nei campi profughi di Cipro. Un insegnante tedesco sceglie un bambino con caratteristiche “ariane” per un elogio speciale in classe. Tali azioni insegnavano agli studenti a giudicarsi a vicenda dal punto di vista della razza. Germania, periodo di guerra.

La pacificazione è una strategia diplomatica che prevede concessioni a una potenza straniera aggressiva con lo scopo di evitare la guerra. È comunemente associata al primo ministro britannico Neville Chamberlain, in carica dal 1937 al 1940. Negli anni Trenta, il governo britannico perseguì una politica di pacificazione nei confronti della Germania nazista. Oggi, quella strategia di pacificazione è considerata un fallimento, poiché non fu in grado di scongiurare la Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
Le teorie dell’eugenetica, o “igiene razziale” nel contesto tedesco, influenzarono molte delle politiche persecutorie della Germania nazista.
Nell’autunno del 1940, le autorità tedesche imprigionarono centinaia di migliaia di ebrei nel ghetto di Varsavia. Nel periodo di massima espansione, nel ghetto vivevano più di 400.000 ebrei che i tedeschi costringevano a vivere in condizioni terribili e in continuo peggioramento. Tra il 1940 e il maggio del 1943, le autorità tedesche avrebbero deportato più di 275.000 ebrei nel campo di sterminio di Treblinka con l’obiettivo di eliminarli. La parola ariano ha una lunga storia. Inizialmente, si riferiva a gruppi di persone che parlavano una famiglia di lingue affini, tra cui gran parte delle lingue europee e diverse lingue asiatiche. Quando i nazisti salirono al potere nel 1933, in Germania vivevano diverse migliaia di Neri. Il regime nazista li prese di mira e li perseguitò in quanto i nazisti ritenevano che fossero di razza inferiore. Anche se non esisteva un programma centralizzato e sistematico che prendesse di mira le persone nere con l’obiettivo di eliminarle, molte di queste furono comunque imprigionate, sterilizzate e uccise dai nazisti.
Queste date fondamentali riguardano la cronologia degli eventi relativi ai Protocolli dei Savi di Sion, la più famosa e distribuita pubblicazione antisemita dei tempi moderni.
Nell’autunno del 1940, le autorità tedesche crearono un ghetto a Varsavia, la più grande città della Polonia con la più grande popolazione di ebrei. Circa il 30% della popolazione di Varsavia era stipata in un’area che occupava il 2,4% della città.
