Evening gown worn onboard the MS St. Louis for a celebration on June 13, 1939

After years of Nazi persecution and hardship, the Jewish passengers aboard the St. Louis enjoyed some of the comforts of the ocean voyage. Lilly Joseph wore this evening gown at a celebration when the passengers learned they would not be returning to Nazi Germany.
