Il partito nazista cercò di estendere la sua influenza su tutti gli aspetti della società tedesca. La Gioventù Hitleriana e la Lega delle Ragazze Tedesche furono sviluppate come associazioni giovanili del partito nazista per inculcare l'ideologia e la politica nazista in bambini e ragazzi. Queste associazioni, inoltre, preparavano i giovani tedeschi alla guerra.

Dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, tribunali internazionali, nazionali e militari misero sotto processo decine di migliaia di criminali di guerra. I Nazisti utilizzarono efficacemente i mezzi di propaganda a disposizione di una nazione democratica—e più tardi della dittatura—per ottenere il sostegno della popolazione alle persecuzioni, alla guerra, e infine al genocidio. Le immagini e gli stereotipi usati dai Nazisti non erano affatto originali, anzi, il loro pubblico li conosceva già molto bene.
L'Olocausto è il caso di genocidio storicamente meglio e più documentato. Nonostante ciò, calcolare il numero esatto di persone che morirono come conseguenza delle politiche naziste è un'impresa impossibile. Non esiste alcun documento che riporti con esattezza il numero delle vittime.
Nonostante gli Americani avessero informazioni credibili sulle persecuzioni attuate dal regime nazista contro gli Ebrei, la maggior parte non credeva che lo sterminio di massa fosse possibile in realtà. Anche se in generale gli Americani simpatizzavano con la difficile situazione degli Ebrei europei, l'assistenza ai rifugiati e il soccorso delle vittime del Nazismo non diventarono mai una priorità nazionale.
Guidati da Adof Hitler e imbevuti della sua ideologia razzista, i Nazisti furono responsabili dell'omicidio di sei milioni di Ebrei e milioni di altre vittime.
Per molti di noi il Diario di Anna Frank rappresenta la prima, e a volte unica, testimonianza diretta dell’Olocausto. Scritto meticolosamnete durante i due anni vissuti in clandestinità, il diario rimane una delle opere più lette al mondo. Anna è diventata il simbolo delle promesse perdute con la morte di oltre un milione di bambini ebrei durante l'Olocausto.
Dopo aver sconfitto l’esercito polacco nel settembre 1939, i tedeschi repressero spietatamente i polacchi uccidendo migliaia di civili, istituendo programmi di lavoro forzato su larga scala e deportando centinaia di migliaia di persone.
