Srebrenica Massacre Begins

On July 11, 1995, Bosniak civilians fled the Serbian advance on Srebrenica and sought shelter at the UN base north of Srebrenica at Potocari. UN declared Srebrenica a "safe haven," but Bosnian Serb forces launched a new offensive to capture Srebrenica. They killed an estimated 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys, the largest massacre in Europe since the Holocaust.
