UN Security Council Creates ICTY

In 1993, in response to the massive atrocities committed in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina since 1991, the United Nations Security Council created the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY). It was the first international criminal tribunal since Nuremberg and the first ever mandated to prosecute the crime of genocide.
