Hitler Campaign Speech

In July 1932, the Nazis campaigned relentlessly in national parliamentary elections. During the campaign, Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler travels across Germany by airplane. He regularly gives speeches to crowds of tens of thousands of people. This clip shows a Nazi event in the town of Waldenburg, Germany (today Wałbrzych, Poland) on July 22. The full pageantry of Nazi rallies is on display, including uniforms, music, and swastika flags. It also shows Hitler’s impassioned delivery style. In the speech, Hitler condemns Germany’s democratic government (called the Weimar Republic) and promises that the Nazis will bring salvation for the German nation.

On July 31, 1932, the Nazi Party wins 37.3 percent of the vote. It becomes the largest party represented in the Reichstag.
