Winston Churchill Becomes Prime Minister

Winston Churchill became British prime minister on May 10, 1940. He succeeded Neville Chamberlain, who resigned after losing crucial support following Britain's failure to save Norway from German occupation. Although both leaders were members of the Conservative Party, Churchill had long publicly opposed Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement.
