Roland Freisler, un nazi fanatique, fut nommé président du Volksgerichtshof (Tribunal du peuple) en 1942. Il en fit un instrument de la terreur nazie. Sous la direction de Freisler, la cour condamna des milliers d’Allemands pour leur opposition au Troisième Reich.
