수용소에서 살아남은 생존자들은 신발과 같은 최소한의 기본 물품도 가지고 있지 못했다. 1945년 6월 또는 7월, 제이콥 폴락이 네덜란드로 귀환한 후 적십자사는 위 사진의 미군용 군화를 그에게 지급하였다.
