Yona Wygocka Dickmann fez este pente de alumínio utilizando peças de avião, depois que as SS a transferiram de Auschwitz para Freiburgo, na Alemanhao, para efetuar trabalho escravo em uma fábrica de aviões, em novembro de 1944. Ela usou o pente quando seu cabelo, raspado em Auschwitz, tornou a crescer.
