Adolf Hitler is Appointed Chancellor

German President Paul von Hindenburg appoints Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler as chancellor of Germany. Hitler is not elected to power and he does not seize power in a coup. He comes to power through Germany’s legal, constitutional process.

Over the next year and a half, Hitler and the Nazis transform Germany from a democracy into a dictatorship.
