Miután 1942-ben Theresienstadtból az auschwitzi koncentrációs táborba deportálták, Karel Bruml a buna-monowitzi táborrészlegben található Buna szintetikusgumi-gyárban végzett kényszermunkát. A sapka a rabruhája része volt.
