Eine Brücke verband separate Bereiche des Warschauer Ghettos, um zu verhindern, dass Juden die dazwischenliegenden Straßen, die nicht zum Ghetto gehörten, betreten konnten. Bevor das Ghetto abgeriegelt wurde, gab es an den wenigen Ein- und Ausgängen Kontrollpunkte. In den ersten Monaten des Ghettos erschien das Leben relativ normal, doch schon bald forderten der Mangel an Lebensmitteln und die katastrophalen Wohnverhältnisse ihren Tribut.
